Job Title: Visiting Assistant Professor of Art
Position Status: One-Year Visitor
Academic Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor
Department: Art
Campus Location: Main Campus
Job Summary
The Art Department at Colorado College is seeking an architectural historian for a full-time Visiting Instructor (ABD) or Visiting Assistant Professor (PhD) of Art with expertise in architectural history for the 2025-26 academic year. The successful candidate will teach six intensive “block” classes: including parts one and two of a global architecture survey, modern and contemporary architecture, a history of design, and two other classes to be developed in consultation with the department. The courses should be aimed at general liberal arts students as well as art majors and students in our thriving track in design studies. We encourage varied and innovative pedagogical approaches. Some college-level teaching experience is strongly recommended. The position includes health benefits; the Art Department can also support professional development projects.
The CC Art Department is a joint program with tracks in studio art, art history, museum studies and design studies. There are eight full-time faculty, an extensive digital image bank and strong staff support. Field trips can be arranged within Colorado Springs, the Air Force Academy, and Denver to supplement studies of diverse campus buildings.
Founded in 1874, Colorado College is a highly selective private liberal arts college with a history of innovative, intensive, and interdisciplinary teaching. One distinguishing feature of Colorado College is its Block Plan, in which professors teach, and students take, one course at a time. Each block is three and a half weeks long with class every day for eighteen days. For more information, consult the following link https://www.coloradocollege.edu/basics/blockplan/. A successful candidate must exhibit potential for excellence in dynamic teaching at a small liberal arts college.
Colorado College actively promotes a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work. Read more about our commitment to Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in our “The Strategy for a More Just CC,” a living document that presents a framework to address ten priority areas where antiracism strategies impact all areas of the college, policies, practices, and pedagogies (please see https://www.coloradocollege.edu/offices/adei/strategic-plan.html).
