Job Summary

Assists in language teaching though instruction, tutoring and related cultural activities. The Classical Languages and Cultural Activities Coordinator lives on campus and also directs/coordinates cultural programming. This is a 9-month position that runs from mid-August until mid-May.

Financial compensation is comparable to a graduate stipend (earnings are subject to US taxes), please see details in the What We Offer section below.

Responsibilities

Teaching: Extended format Latin and Greek classes (2 hours per week at each level in each language)—ranging from lower intermediate to advanced level.
Tutoring: as needed to supplement the class meetings; working with senior majors on translations in their theses.
Holding regular office hours: typically 4-6 hours per week

Cultural Programming: The CLCAC is in charge of the cultural programming for the Classics Department and will live on campus near students; plan, organize and execute cultural programs and activities for Greek and Latin students and the campus community (e.g. dinners, movies, language “tables” at meals, field trips, campus-wide cultural activities involving literature, drama, film or dance).

Additional Responsibilities:
Maintain appropriate documentation and records as instructed.
Collaborate with the Director of Global Studies and Residential Life Coordinator to create programs to prepare students for experiences abroad and reconnect students returning from abroad.
Meet as appropriate with the faculty advisor.
Promote an environment and relationships with students, faculty and staff that reflects inclusion and respect for diversity and equitable practices.
Assist students, particularly from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, low-income households, and first generations students, to reflect on their experiences in ways that will promote opportunities for a productive and successful experience at CC.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in the classics or equivalent; knowledge of teaching methodologies and classroom strategies; strong interpersonal skills; excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; satisfactory knowledge of Latin and ancient Greek language. Must be independent, adaptable, flexible, able to work with various constituencies, and enthusiastic about classical culture. The successful candidate will exhibit the potential for excellence in teaching and for contributing to the department’s scholarly activities.

What We Offer:

As part of the total compensation for Staff and Faculty roles, we offer a competitive benefits package including:

-Base salary: $11,630
-$900 per adjunct course taught, for a total of $10,800 per year

-Meals provided in the value of $3400 ($1700 per semester)
-Private room with bath, kitchen, and living room with furniture
-Reimbursement for a least-cost round-trip economy flight to Colorado Springs, up to $500
-Opportunity to audit (without credit) up to two courses per semester
-Eligibility to participate in the college's medical plan (20% cost share to the employee).
