Department: Art

Campus Location: Main Campus

Job Summary

The Department of Art at Colorado College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank, to begin in August of 2025. We are seeking an artist to teach studio-based courses with an emphasis on 3-Dimensional design. Applicants may focus on a range of fields (including but not limited to: fiber arts, ceramics, installation, furniture, and object design); those who have experience teaching and making in a liberal arts context are particularly encouraged to apply. We also welcome applications from artists who can address the relationship of hands-on making and craft media to emergent creative technologies. MFA or related degree and prior teaching experience in higher education required.

The successful candidate will teach studio courses at all levels, including Art Studio Foundations: 3D Design, Design Workshop, and Senior Seminar. Candidates will be expected to be part of developing and teaching a diverse and inclusive curriculum, to participate in interdisciplinary programs and initiatives, and to provide service to the college and department. The successful candidate should demonstrate creative productivity with the promise of creative achievement, excellence in teaching, and a commitment to mentoring undergraduate students.

Colorado College is a private, undergraduate, selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 2,200 students. One distinguishing feature of Colorado College is its Block Plan, in which professors teach, and students take, one course at a time. Each block meets daily for three and a half weeks, allowing for unique teaching and learning strategies. Professors teach six of the eight blocks in an academic year, including one block dedicated to supervising senior capstone projects. The Block Plan lends itself to experiential, field, and project-based teaching, and funds and logistical support for such projects are available through the College and the Art Department. For more information, consult the following link https://www.coloradocollege.edu/basics/blockplan/.

The Art Department offers a liberal arts program encompassing studio art, art history, design studies, and museum studies. The Art Department has resources to support field trips, visitors, and other class enrichment programs. Our facilities include a computer lab and a newly renovated, fully equipped fabrication shop maintained by a full-time supervisor. Faculty are eligible to apply for funds to support creative and professional projects. This tenure-track position includes full benefits and a competitive salary depending upon experience and qualifications.

The College actively promotes a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work. We are committed to becoming an antiracist institution in all of our policies, practices, and pedagogies (please see https://www.coloradocollege.edu/other/antiracism-commitment/). Applicants should submit a separate statement describing how they can contribute to these goals. The Art Department believes the College grows stronger by recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty committed to building an inclusive community. Candidates who can contribute to this goal are particularly encouraged to apply.
