Job Summary

The ATC/Athletic Insurance Coordinator position will serve as the primary athletic trainer for one of our 14 varsity athletic teams while assisting in the operation and management of the Sports Medicine area. In addition, this position is responsible for coordination of medical claims initiated by the CC Sports Medicine. They will serve as the primary administrator for managing our secondary insurance policy and submitting claims.

 

Responsibilities

• Provide all aspects of medical care for varsity athletic injuries including, evaluation of injuries and illnesses, developing and applying treatment and rehabilitation programs through the use of therapeutic modalities, exercise, and manual treatment; determine necessity for specific medical referral; exercise professional medical communication skills interacting with coaches, physicians, athletic department staff, EMS, student athletes, and parents as well as with all members of the Sports Medicine Staff to determine effective correlation between return to play and rehabilitation efforts; maintain proper, accurate, current and confidential documentation of all aspects of medical treatment provided.
• Provide coverage of sport assignments as determined by the Associate AD for Sports Performance and Wellness to include home practices and competitions, as well as travel to offsite games depending on the sport covered; provide outreach medical coverage for host events at off campus venue as determined by the composite sports medicine schedule. Sports assigned will be reviewed and may be revised annually to best match staffing talents and interests, as well as to maintain equality and balance of coverage requirements within the staff.
• Manage and monitor insurance budget (both independently and in collaboration with Associate AD for Sports Performance and Wellness); initiate and reconcile payments; provide oversight to minimize financial risk to the college.
• Track student-athlete insurance and sport rider enrollments; collaborate with Senior Associate Athletic Director, Financial Aid and Dean of Students to evaluate student need for assistance; communicate with student accounts for appropriate insurance payment and billing issues relating to Div. 1 and Div. 3 athletes.
• Coordinate all medical claims initiated by sports medicine from referral to complete resolution of claim; compile and update daily/monthly reports.
• Serve as primary contact to advise/discuss all pertinent requirements, insurance, and claims issues by direct communication with parents, athletes, and colleagues as needed (and as permitted by law).
• Independently administer secondary insurance policy and submit claims.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in athletic training, BOC Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing with the BOC, NATA, and other national/state regulatory agencies; must possess a current and valid State of Colorado licensure number or be eligible to immediately obtain this licensure; must be certified in First-aid, CPR, and AED use as a Professional Rescuer by the ARC/AHA; must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; ability to work extended hours, early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays frequently due to the athletic seasons. Must also be proficient with computer software programs such as Excel, Word, and electronic medical record systems, excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and basic business math; ability to think critically and solve problems; good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion; good organizational and customer service skills; knowledge of insurance claims processing. Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 50 lbs., travel on a plane, bus or in vans for an extended period of time and the ability to stand for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong clinical and interpersonal skills; exceptional time management and detail-orientation skills, and have the ability to work independently as well as with other staff; experience working in a collegiate, co-educational environment; excellent written and verbal communication skills; working knowledge of insurance referral systems for athletic injury claims; proficiency in standard office equipment, and the use of electronic medical record system software; basic knowledge of NCAA rules for Division I & Division III athletics.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • Band D; Other - See position details $45,820 to $46,358 for 10 month position
