Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to manage the intake, arrangement, description, and preservation of archival materials in all formats documenting the history of Colorado College. This position is responsible for ensuring the long-term stewardship, organization, and accessibility of archival collections by applying professional archival standards and best practices, supporting research, institutional memory, and responsible access to the College’s historical records.

Responsibilities

  • Archival Acquisition and Stewardship:
    • Preserves and provides access to Colorado College’s institutional history by proactively acquiring, appraising, and accessioning archival materials from academic departments, administrative offices, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors.
    • Works closely with campus partners to identify historically significant records and ensure their long-term preservation and accessibility.
  • Archival Processing and Description:
    • Physically transfers, arranges, and describes archival collections in accordance with professional archival standards.
    • Creates, maintains, and enhances descriptive metadata in Archive Space to support discovery, access, and responsible use of archival materials by researchers and the broader campus community.
  • Rare Books and Special Collections Cataloging:
    • Conducts rare book and special materials cataloging, ensuring accurate bibliographic description, appropriate classification, and alignment with established cataloging standards to support access, preservation, and stewardship of distinctive collections.
  • Library Collaboration and Shared Professional Responsibilities:
    • Contributes to the overall success of Tutt Library by participating as a member of the librarian team, supporting shared initiatives, service responsibilities, and collaborative projects that advance the Library’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Data Governance and Metadata Collaboration:
    • Supports campus-wide data governance and metadata policies related to historical archives and active records management by serving on committees, contributing subject matter expertise, and collaborating with campus stakeholders to promote consistent, ethical, and sustainable information practices.
  • Student Supervision and Training:
    • Supervises student assistants, including hiring, training, assigning work, and providing guidance to ensure high-quality archival processing and adherence to departmental standards and workflows.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s of Library Science or Related Field
  • Master’s Degree must be ALA-accredited.
  • 3 years of experience in a related field

One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $62,653 to $75,183 per year
