Job Summary

Works closely with the Assistant Controller – Payroll & Compliance, to ensure that payroll is prepared and processed in an accurate and timely manner, timesheets are submitted and approved, and withholding of taxes, retirement contributions, etc. is remitted to the appropriate jurisdictions. This role also works closely with Human Resources and other internal stakeholders to ensure that all payroll-related processes and procedures are followed.

Responsibilities

• Accurately prepare and process all faculty, staff, and student payrolls, including taxes, employee benefits, garnishments, sick leave and other payroll deductions, ensuring adherence to state and federal law and college policies.
• Maintain confidential payroll records and ensure that all data is entered into the payroll system accurately and in a timely manner.
• Collect, reconcile, and remit employee payroll withholding to the correct jurisdictions in compliance with deadlines.
• Independently reconcile and prepare all W-2s including routinely auditing and reconciling employee annual earning data.
• Support year-end audit work by providing requested information to independent financial statement and retirement plan auditors.
• Provide excellent customer service to employees and supervisors by answering payroll related questions and researching and resolving any payroll issues in a timely and efficient manner.
• Keep up to date with changes in payroll laws and regulations and communicate any changes to members of the Controller’s Office.
• Participate in ad hoc and special projects to improve payroll processes

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree related to the accounting field (or equivalent related experience) plus three years of experience independently processing payroll to include garnishments, wage assignments, or support orders. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of payroll laws and related multi-state tax laws.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Payroll Profession (CPP); experience using Banner and Sprintax software.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • Band E; $51,014 to $61,217 per year
