Job Summary

The Paraprofessional (Psychology) position provides a variety of support to department faculty, staff and students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Psychology faculty with instructional support, such as running labs and activities, maintenance of lab equipment, arranging rooms and technology for classes, preparing of print and electronic materials, online learning management system support, proctoring exams, grading, teaching APA style format, and holding office hours to answer student questions and help students with labs.
  • Coordinate with the colony keeper in all facets of animal care, including daily health checks of the animal colonies, food restriction for Introduction to Psychology rats, and handling and gentling of rats prior to lab use.
  • Maintain and update a repository of Introduction to Psychology lab exercises used by faculty for psychology and neuroscience courses, and maintain the student lending library for psychology books and texts.
  • Coordinate, organize, and run course-based community based learning and outreach.
  • Maintain the facilities of the department to include classroom and lab facilities, bulletin boards and other announcement boards, corridors and storage areas; lock and unlock classroom and lab doors as needed before use; troubleshoot classroom technology problems.
  • Maintain and regularly update official social media communication for departmental news (e.g., Twitter, Instagram accounts), and represent the department and majors at Admissions and academic affairs events.
  • Help the Chair and Administrative Assistant in the performance of departmental administrative duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; good communication skills, a sense of responsibility, and a commitment to excellence; ability to manage time and work priorities; ability to work with rats and animal tissues used in teaching and research; ability to comply with regulations concerning chemicals, biological materials, and animal research safety regulations and guidelines; proficient with common computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds. Physical requirements include prolonged standing/sitting and using a computer and computer screen; moderate lifting up to 50lbs.; exposure to chemical, biological, animal, and/or other hazards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Colorado College Psychology and Neuroscience programs and the block plan.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $20.03/hour
