Job Summary

The Paraprofessional – Political Science provides essential support to department faculty, staff, and students by assisting with research, writing, classroom projects, and a variety of administrative and academic tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative
    • Perform administrative tasks, including printing, copying, scanning, as well as various other office tasks, and setting up zoom on computers for class when needed.
    • Assist with planning and putting on department and college-wide events.
    • Maintain avenues of outreach for the department including daily student interactions, Instagram, the CC website and the Digest, and blockly newsletters to facilitate student connections with college resources
    • Assist the department with hiring new faculty members by organizing itineraries, meetings, mock classes, tours, and meals with interviewing faculty and students.
  • Research and Writing
    • Assist faculty with academic projects and preparing academic materials which might include:
    • Conducting background research­
    • Analyzing quantitative data, including statistical analysis
    • Writing literature reviews
    • Finding and securing academic sources and resources
    • Creating charts, tables, and other graphics
  • Tutoring
    • Work with political science students to develop research and writing skills.
    • Work with political science students to develop senior theses and tutorial papers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.A. or minor in Political Science, International Political Economy, History and Political Science, or Classics, History, and Politics Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds
  • Experience conducting academic or comparable research
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines independently in a collaborative academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an academic or research job or internship position.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $20.03 per hour
