Job Summary

The Department of Organismal Biology and Ecology (OBE) at Colorado College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position with expertise in Animal-Plant Interactions to begin in Fall 2025.

Responsibilities for this position entail teaching six courses in the academic year, including field-based ecology, introductory biology focused on plants, a non-majors’ course in the candidate’s area of specialty, an upper-level course in the candidate’s area of specialty (e.g., pollination, herbivory, symbioses, entomology), and a mentored student research course. The ability to integrate experimental design, ecology, and evolutionary biology and a familiarity with Rocky Mountain or Southwestern ecosystems are highly desirable. We seek an individual with demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, which includes fostering inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.

Colorado College is a private, undergraduate, highly selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 2200 students. The college uses the Block Plan calendar in which students take one class at a time, allowing for unique learning and teaching strategies, as well as significant field and lab experiences. The OBE Department studies the structure and function of organisms in ecological and evolutionary contexts. OBE research foci include plant, animal, and microbial biology, ecology, and evolution, comparative physiology, conservation biology, and molecular ecology. The department strives to perform impactful research and include students in these opportunities. Information about Colorado College and OBE can be found at our web site: https://www.coloradocollege.edu/academics/dept/obe/ .

Colorado College actively promotes a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work. Read more about our commitment to Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in our “The Strategy for a More Just CC,” a living document that presents a framework to address ten priority areas where antiracism strategies impact all areas of the college, policies, practices, and pedagogies (please see https://www.coloradocollege.edu/offices/adei/strategic-plan.html). The OBE department believes the College grows stronger by recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty committed to building an inclusive community. Candidates who can contribute to this goal are particularly encouraged to apply.

Inquiries about the position may be sent to the OBE chairperson, Dr. Brian Linkhart at blinkhart@coloradocollege.edu.
