Job Summary

Performs the daily installation, maintenance, and operation of the college’s telecommunications system, including voice endpoints; organizes and completes the technical day-to-day operations assigned through work orders and servicing trouble calls.

 

Responsibilities

· Install, move, repair, and modify telecommunications and related equipment according to job order specifications, standards, and procedures; determine cable, wire and equipment needed to accomplish the service requested; install circuits, cross-connects, equipment, and interconnecting circuits, testing and verifying proper operation of the installed circuits and/or equipment; confirm completion of the service requested by the customer, complete the work order showing the work is completed, ensure the network documentation is updated, and interface with off-campus telecommunication vendor(s).

· Assume shared responsibility for the cable plant by determining and assigning the appropriate inside cable pairs, and making required changes in cable pair assignments.

· Support a variety of legacy analog endpoints across campus such as dial up modems, and fax machines.

· Work in conjunction with vendors on voice endpoints such as elevator phones and emergency phones.

· Maintain inventory and stock, recommend purchase of both technical and nontechnical supplies, and take responsibility for tools and test equipment.

· Support ITS: Infrastructure by providing consultation on special telephone/data communications services and projects and assisting in ensuring the proper allocation and retention of adequate spare and reserve capacity of telecom resources.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or the equivalent plus a minimum of four years of telecommunications experience, to include experience with voice over IP telecommunications systems and associated infrastructure and legacy analog endpoint devices; communication system analysis, troubleshooting, and repairs skills; knowledge of the theories and techniques involved in the implementation and maintenance of private and public telecommunications networks and telecommunications equipment operation and use; ability to use and operate a personal computer, basic cable tester, and other tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and operation of telecommunications systems; familiarity familiar with twisted pair installation methods. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier if driving college vehicles.
