Job Summary

The Director of Academic Assessment, Accreditation, and Evaluation provides college-wide leadership to advance a strong culture of evidence-informed improvement at Colorado College. This role oversees assessment across all academic programs—including majors and general education—by supporting faculty, coordinating assessment activities, and maintaining clear resources and guidance on best practices. The director manages all phases of institutional accreditation, from compiling assurance arguments and evidentiary materials to coordinating campus-wide input and site visits, in close partnership with the College’s Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Additionally, the position administers external reviews for academic departments, supporting self-studies and preparing data and documentation for external reviewers. The director also serves as chair and administrator of the Colorado Institutional Review Board (IRB), ensuring ethical research practices and compliance. This highly collaborative role drives continuous improvement and academic excellence across the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Leads Institutional Assessment Efforts:
    • Provides leadership and expertise on assessment-related policies, practices, and activities.
    • Oversees academic assessment across department curricula and all college academic programs (including general education); facilitates faculty assessment efforts; shares best practices and serves as a resource to faculty and staff; ensures assessment activities align with accreditation requirements.
    • Maintains clear communication and centralized resources related to assessment procedures and practices for the campus
  • Manage and Administer Institutional Accreditation:
    • Holds primary administrative responsibility for matters related to institutional accreditation.
    • Compiles information for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) assurance argument, evidentiary files, and quality initiative projects; uploads and organizes documents required for reaffirmation; and manages all phases of accreditation reviews and site visits in collaboration with others in the Office of the Dean of the Faculty.
    • Collaborates with faculty and administrative offices across campus.
    • Support Colorado College’s Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) to the HLC by tracking information and regulatory changes, participating in accreditation training, and manages tasks and procedures for reaccreditation, including preparing assurance arguments and evidentiary materials, managing the online materials with HLC, and coordinating campus visit.
  • Coordinate External Reviews of Academic Departments: 
    • Administers and supports external reviews by coordinating departmental self-studies, preparing relevant academic data, and reviewing materials for completeness and clarity before they are sent to external reviewers.
    • This position will administer and chair the Colorado Institutional Review Board.
  • Administration and Oversight of the IRB:
    • Serve as chair and administrator for the IRB.
    • Provide operational oversight and execution of the IRB, to include administering the IRB process (tracking of protocols, submissions, correspondence, approvals, review exempt and expedited protocols), administer full board reviews, support investigators through the application and review cycle, promote a culture of ethical human subjects research through effective documentation and communication, and institutional reporting of IRB activity.
  • Collaboration Skills:
    • Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues, stressful or complex interactions with the community, and requires high levels of tact and the ability to respond to escalated interpersonal interactions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 5 years of experience in a related field

One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $88,061 to $110,077 per year
