Job Summary
Colorado College is hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Organismal Biology and Ecology to begin in August 2025. We are seeking an organismal biologist with expertise in mycology, microbiology and ecology/evolution.
Responsibilities for this Organismal Biology and Ecology department position entail teaching six courses annually, including introductory microbiology, mycology, ecology or evolution, either an upper-level course or non-majors’ course in the candidate’s area of specialty, and a mentored student research course. Faculty are also expected to maintain an active research program which includes directing undergraduate student research, and to contribute to service at Colorado College and within the profession. We seek an individual with demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and research, which includes fostering inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.
Colorado College is a private, undergraduate, highly selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 2200 students. The college uses the Block Plan calendar in which students take one class at a time, allowing for unique learning and teaching strategies, as well as significant field and lab experiences. The Organismal Biology and Ecology (OBE) Department at Colorado College studies the structure and function of organisms in an ecological and evolutionary context. OBE research foci include botany, animal and plant ecology and evolution, comparative physiology, conservation biology, and molecular ecology. The department strives to perform impactful research and include students in these opportunities. Minimum Qualifications
A completed Ph.D. in mycology or microbiology at time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
A completed Ph.D. in mycology or microbiology at time of application. Undergraduate teaching experience, mentoring undergraduate research experience, and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in biology are also priorities.
