About Us
Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,300 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.” The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the NCAA Division III level and two at the Division I level. Division III programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), with the exception of Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (WIAC affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and Division I Women’s Soccer competes as an affiliate member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC).
Job Summary
Work closely with the Head Ice Technician & Building Operations Coordinator to ensure an exceptional and consistent NCAA Division I ice surface, while also assisting with all arena changeovers for other events. Hours include weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.
Responsibilities
· Assist Head Ice Technician & Building Operations director with creating and maintaining quality ice surface for all skating constituencies to include: depth readings and adjustment of ice surface to provide quality level of ice, maintain optimal depth of ice for efficient cooling and energy savings, maintain edge of ice surface with edger to keep the quality of the ice consistent from the center to the boards, and coordinating the ice and air temperatures with the Heating Plant.
· Assist the Head Ice Technician & Building Operations director with supervision of OC Arena Operations/Ice Technicians student staff and part-time personnel
· Install, repair, replace and clean hockey glass and dasher boards.
· Provide general/routine building and equipment maintenance, emphasis on client and event/fan arena experience.
· Lead equipment rental program, which includes performing maintenance on hockey and skating equipment including skate sharpening and equipment repair.
· Ensure a safe, secure, clean, functioning facility; provide security and emergency response to injury.
· Coordinate facility usage (rental and event operations) and logistical setup/take down for all events, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Robson Arena, including but not limited to intercollegiate, college, external, club, camp, City for Champions initiatives and all other rentals.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma plus specialized training to include obtaining Certified Ice Technician and two years of related experience; ability to maintain and repair ice resurfacer; proficient in Microsoft Office software to include Word, and Excel; strong customer service skills; excellent interpersonal/verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar and basic business math good judgment and organizational skills; ability to think critically and solve problems; ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Physical requirements include heavy physical effort (lifting up to 100 pounds); exposure to noisy, icy or dusty conditions and chemicals and solvents; exposure to mechanical, electrical and/or other hazards.
