Position Status: One-Year Visitor

Academic Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor

Department: Organismal Biology & Ecology

Campus Location: Main Campus

Job Summary

The Department of Organismal Biology and Ecology (OBE) at Colorado College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position with specialization in Animal Biology and Ecology to begin in Fall 2025.

Responsibilities for this position entail teaching six courses in the academic year, including introductory zoology/animal biology, field-based ecology, either an upper-level course or non-majors’ course in the candidate’s area of specialty, and a mentored student research course. The ability to integrate subfields of physiology, behavior, experimental design, ecology, and evolutionary biology and a familiarity with Rocky Mountain or Southwestern ecosystems are highly desirable. We seek an individual with demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, which includes fostering inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.

Colorado College is a private, undergraduate, highly selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 2200 students. The college uses the Block Plan calendar in which students take one class at a time, allowing for unique learning and teaching strategies, as well as significant field and lab experiences. The OBE Department studies the structure and function of organisms in ecological and evolutionary contexts. OBE research foci include plant, animal, and microbial biology, ecology, and evolution, comparative physiology, conservation biology, and molecular ecology. The department strives to perform impactful research and include students in these opportunities. Information about Colorado College and OBE can be found at our web site: https://www.coloradocollege.edu/academics/dept/obe/ .

Colorado College is committed to increasing the diversity of the college community and to becoming an antiracist institution in our policies, practices, and pedagogies (please see https://www.coloradocollege.edu/other/antiracism-commitment/). We actively promote a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work. The OBE department believes the College grows stronger by recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty committed to building an inclusive community. Candidates who can contribute to this goal are particularly encouraged to apply.
