Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to support the program manager in completing the 2025–2026 field study on the relationship between political affiliation and outdoor space use in Colorado Springs while also managing, organizing, and preserving historical State of the Rockies (SoR) documents and records. The role anchors 2026–2027 student project teams by assisting with fieldwork, GIS, media production, and the writing and editing of reports and articles, as well as contributing to the production of the Anthropogenic digital and print magazine. Under direct supervision, the Research Assistant/Archivist inventories, organizes, digitizes, and catalogs physical and digital materials—including documents, films, videos, and audio recordings—to track key themes and insights for storytelling, ultimately contributing to a comprehensive digital archive and a printed hardcover collection of SoR research findings, student theses, and film work.

Responsibilities

  • Archival Duties:
    • Organize, catalog, and preserve State of the Rockies archival materials by digitizing physical records, implementing preservation and processing standards, coordinating with Colorado College archives for institutional record-sharing, and creating summaries and visual materials that highlight meaningful archival content.
  • Research Assistant Duties:
    • Support student-led research initiatives by collaborating with the Rockies Project Specialist, conducting field data collection, performing basic statistical and GIS analyses, contributing to academic writing and reporting, and developing content for the digital magazine.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Provide logistical and administrative support by assisting with staff-led event execution and maintaining accurate records of engagement opportunities, events, and partner information in Summit.
  • Communication Support:
    • Enhance visibility and engagement for State of the Rockies through the creation and distribution of digital and physical communications, campus outreach activities, tabling and pop-up events, and by gathering and producing multimedia content—written, visual, and video—for the digital magazine, website, social media, and EE@CC campus newsletter.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 1 year of experience in a related field

One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $17.00 per hour
