About Us

Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,300 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.”

Job Summary

The Temporary Laboratory Coordinator designs and executes research in molecular microbiology in the Lostroh lab, investigating evolution and horizontal gene transfer.

Responsibilities

• Designs experiments.
• Executes experiments.
• Use computational tools.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment.
• Maintains detailed laboratory notebook documenting all research activities.
• Performs library research to inform experimentation and mathematical modeling.
• Assists with teaching students how to do laboratory procedures such as preparation of bacterial growth media and operation of laboratory equipment.
• Assists in writing professional papers for publication about the experiments and mathematical modeling.

Minimum Qualifications

• B.A. in Biology or Molecular Biology or a related field.
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Ability to execute experiments in molecular microbiology.
• Ability to use computational biology to analyze genome sequences.
• Ability to recognize and troubleshoot experiments.
• Ability to follow safety guidelines and exercise good judgement.
• Ability to uphold policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, facilities, and equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.
• General office skills to include operating of computers, copiers, and phones.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
• Commitment to inclusion and equity in all aspects of operations.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and self-motivate.

  • Previous Colorado College Student.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $20.00 per hour
