Job Summary

Provides effective installation, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, plan, schedule, and complete in-house projects concerning repair, replacement, and capital improvement projects of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Provide technical design review for department projects.
  • Perform HVAC and refrigeration preventative maintenance as required.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain refrigeration equipment systems in support of campus food service programs and operations.
  • Utilize the college’s computerized maintenance management system, TMA, to track and prioritize scheduled preventive maintenance, repair, and project work related to HVAC, mechanical, and refrigeration systems; maintain accurate records in TMA daily; support the department’s strategic initiative of spending at least 50% of time on scheduled work.
  • Proactively collaborate with customers and other trades shops to complete projects, preventative maintenance, and repairs.
  • Prioritize and respond to emergency requests for system adjustments from the campus.
  • Support campus sustainability goals and energy measures; analyze and assess current and emerging technologies and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls as required by the HVAC Shop On-call Response program.
    o Actively support the college’s commitment to be an antiracist institution by understanding, engaging with, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the college community.
  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working safely; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
  • Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting the college’s sustainability initiatives and innovation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School/GED diploma plus a minimum of three years of related experience;
  • Mechanic IV License or must obtain one within the first 90 days of employment;
  • HVAC Degree or Certification and an EPA Refrigerant Technician Certification;
  • strong working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems;
  • proficient with computer software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS);
  • excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds;
  • ability to think critically and solve problems;
  • good judgment, organizational and customer service skills;
  • ability to operate standard office equipment and small hand tools.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier.

Physical requirements include finger and wrist dexterity and hand/eye coordination to perform keyboard functions; moderate physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds); walking, standing, carrying of loads up and down stairs, reaching and/or grasping, stooping, kneeling, bending, crawling, and crouching, pushing and/or pulling; must work outdoors in all weather conditions; exposure to noisy or dusty conditions, mechanical, electrical and/or other hazards chemicals and solvents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using TMA work order management system software;
  • 5 years of mechanical construction experience;
  • strong working knowledge of variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $26.98 to $32.36 per hour
