About Us

Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,100 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.” The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the NCAA Division III level and two at the Division I level. Division III programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), except for Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (WIAC affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and Division I Women’s Soccer competes as an affiliate member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC).

Job Summary

The primary function of this position is to provide instruction to student athletes as an assistant to the women's lacrosse program and in implementing and directing all phases of a competitive NCAA Division III women's lacrosse program at Colorado College. The full-time assistant coach is responsible for participating in the supervision and direction of all aspects of the team mission & functions. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach and will be responsible for on-field instruction to include player development, assisting in practice and game planning, as well as scouting of opponents and film exchange. The assistant coach must also fulfill the role of a mentor, possessing great skills in communication, as well as character and team-building attributes.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and retain prospective student-athletes while adhering to the philosophy of Colorado College and appropriate NCAA Division III and conference rules.
  • Be an ambassador of Colorado College. Support and represent the mission of the college and identify prospective student-athletes who can thrive in a championship culture that sustains academic excellence.
  • Supplement a liberal arts education by holistically engaging student-athletes around the game of women’s lacrosse, and helping them develop foundational skill sets such as leadership, time management, preparation and work ethic that build self-efficacy, resilience and contribute directly to the team’s competitive success.
  • Contribute to competitive success through the ability to effectively teach skills connected with team and individual development.
  • Help monitor, and coordinate training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained. Assist and perform specific coaching responsibilities during practice and games.
  • Utilize various technology platforms, video and sport-specific software programs for coaching, instruction, contest preparation, completion of scouting reports and execution of recruiting duties.
  • Assist the head coach in administrative tasks, including travel coordination& itineraries, equipment management, student-athlete support as well as campus involvement and engagement by the women’s lacrosse program.
  • Assist in program fund raising, alumni relations, clinics, and community service projects.
  • Abide by all conference, NCAA, and Colorado College rules, regulations and bylaws.
  • Assist the Department of Athletics and Colorado College special event and game operations as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution plus a minimum of three years Collegiate playing/coaching experience. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills in the game of lacrosse, a general understanding of college athletics programs and excellent interpersonal communication, critical thinking and organizational skills. Proficient in computer skills to include Outlook Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic knowledge scouting software, recruiting software, social media platforms and video editing software; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse constituents and from different cultural backgrounds; ability to develop antiracism terminology and language; available to work evening and weekend hours and to travel extensively, often by airplane. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier

Other Position Details:

  • Does not supervise others
  • Position requires driving CC vehicles (drivers must be eligible for coverage under CC's insurance plan)

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $45,000 - $50,000 per year
