Job Summary

The Occasional Campus Safety Officer works on an as-needed basis to help maintain a safe and secure campus environment by protecting the lives, property, and reputation of Colorado College and supporting the safety of students, employees, guests, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol campus buildings, parking lots, and grounds to prevent theft, trespassing, vandalism, and other offenses. Investigate suspicious activities, ensure security by locking/unlocking doors, monitor for hazards, and respond to facility issues in accordance with college policies and regulations.
  • Engage with students, employees, and guests, fostering positive relationships and participating in community relations activities. Communicate professionally and courteously with the college community.
  • Respond to fire alarms, assist emergency personnel, and contact facilities services for repairs as necessary. Act as the initial point of contact in emergency situations, employing de-escalation techniques and efficiently dispatching appropriate units based on incident information.
  • Monitor multiple security systems, generate and prioritize service calls, and maintain accurate records of incidents using records management software and other systems.
  • Provide transportation services for students and employees, support special events with security and emergency management, and maintain a working knowledge of the college’s Emergency Management Plan to manage critical incidents effectively.
  • Assist in campus event operations and perform other assigned duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate plus specialized related training and a minimum of three years of related experience or equivalent education
  • Must be 21 and possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College motor vehicle insurance carrier if required to drive a vehicle.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar and basic business math; excellent customer service skills; good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion; ability to think critically and solve problems; ability to develop strong working relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Physical requirements include ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; walking, prolonged standing, climbing of stairs; ability to lift/carry up to 20 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some college/associate’s degree in a related field
  • Experience in student affairs, campus safety, security, police work, and/or emergency services
  • NIMS ICS certification

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $16.00-$21.00 depending on experience
