About Us

Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,300 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.” The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the NCAA Division III level and two at the Division I level. Division III programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), with the exception of Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (WIAC affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and Division I Women’s Soccer competes as an affiliate member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC).  

Job Summary

Join the team at Ed Robson Arena as an Occasional Arena Operations/Ice Technician, where you'll play a key role in maintaining top-quality ice and ensuring smooth daily operations. This hands-on position involves ice resurfacing, facility upkeep, equipment maintenance, and assisting with event setups to create a safe and well-maintained environment for all arena users.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with arena setups, strikes, conversions, including ice changeovers.
  • Conduct daily facility and equipment inspections to make repair suggestions.
  • Assist with minor repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Actively participate in the upkeep of the facility to include cleaning/disinfecting, mopping/sweeping of general usage areas (lounges, benches, locker rooms, storage areas, etc.), trash removal and cleaning of dasher board glass.
  • Open and close the arena to include door unlocks and lights.
  • Provide quality, safe, and visually appealing ice to user groups.
  • Perform periodic and emergency maintenance on ice resurfacing equipment.
  • Complete ice maintenance logs as instructed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Ability to recognize and troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to follow safety and security guidelines and exercise good judgement
  • Ability to uphold policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, facilities, and equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds
  • Proficient with computer software to include Microsoft Office
  • Ability to perform general labor including removing dasher walls, glass, setting of tables and chairs, building stages, setting pipe and drape, detail cleaning, exterior maintenance, snow removal, painting
  • Ability to stand for prolonged times and lift up to 50 pounds. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • US Ice Rinks Certifications
  • Previous experience operating an ice resurfacer and other ice maintenance equipment

  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and self-motivate.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $16.00 per hour
