Job Summary

he Building Automation Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of building automation systems that support campus facilities. This role ensures HVAC and control systems perform reliably and efficiently while meeting operational, safety, and sustainability standards. The technician works independently and collaboratively to diagnose system issues, implement improvements, and support ongoing building performance across a diverse campus environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain building automation, energy management, and control systems to meet indoor air quality, safety, and comfort standards for campus facilities.
• Assist the lead building automation technician with design, installation, programming, testing, and commissioning of control systems; including estimates, schematic designs, drawings, sequences of operation, and changes to those or related documents.
• Save and back up all personal changes to programs and documentation.
• Install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate pneumatic, electric, electronic, ultrasonic, and direct digital controls for building automation of HVAC, energy, and safety related systems using industry required information, tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Work closely with HVAC mechanics and engineers in the office and in the field; helping others understand how the building automation controls their equipment and sequence so they may troubleshoot system operations using the resources available.
• Produce reports and troubleshoot equipment using historical data from the Building Automation System.
• Respond to and maintain daily workorders for service and maintenance via the TMA workorder system.
• Create workorder requests for self and other departments as needed.
• Assist HVAC and Central Plant Departments in support of technical problems encountered in the field.
• Respond to after-hours emergency calls as necessary to support critical building automation systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in engineering technology, control or HVAC technology or a related degree and experience with building automation control systems; or equivalent 5 years of related experience (in lieu of degree).
• Certification or familiarity with front end devices or programming and knowledge of and/or experience working with control industry protocols, such as Lonworks, Bacnet™, Modbus, etc.
• Knowledge of indoor air quality and safety standards; knowledge of blueprint reading and occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Physical requirements include good vision and hearing; ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing stairs and ladders, and working in very tight spaces and very high places; conditions frequently very noisy and dusty.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $27.38 to $32.86 per hour
