The Department of Physics at Colorado College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics with a specialization in experimental physics to begin Fall 2026.
The Physics Department at Colorado College is a dynamic community of teacher-scholars who believe deeply in the benefit of a well-rounded liberal arts education. We are seeking an experimental physicist to complement our existing research offerings and shares our commitment to providing a high-quality, inclusive, and innovative undergraduate physics education. We are excited about candidates who will provide regular and easily accessible hands-on research opportunities for our undergraduate students, including first- and second-year students, either on campus or in the local Rocky Mountain region. We welcome applications from any area of experimental physics research suitable for a liberal arts environment, including interdisciplinary areas of research, however we will not be considering candidates with an expertise primarily in astrophysics for this hiring cycle.
All faculty in our department teach across our curriculum from introductory to upper-level courses, and we welcome applications from candidates who are excited by this opportunity. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with a keen interest in and ideas for reinvigorating our upper division lab courses, as well as contributing to our General Education offerings including the First Year Program.
Colorado College is a nationally recognized, residential liberal arts and sciences college enrolling approximately 2,100 students from across the US and around the world. The College, located on a 99-acre campus in Colorado Springs, is distinguished by its immersive learning and pedagogy made possible by the Block Plan, in which professors teach, and students take, one course at a time. Each block is three and a half weeks long, allowing for unique teaching and learning strategies. Professors have a six-block teaching duty in the eight-block year, where one of the six blocks may be assigned to supervising senior and independent projects where the work is spread out across the year rather than completed in a conventional block.
