Job Summary

The Department of Art at Colorado College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Art who specializes in 2 D Foundations beginning Fall 2025.

The Department of Art at Colorado College announces a one-year teaching position with a focus on foundations teaching in drawing and design. We invite applicants with experience teaching hands on 2D Design, Color Theory, Observational Drawing, and Figure Drawing. This is a one-year, non-tenure-track position for the 2025-2026 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The successful candidate will teach six courses, including 2D Design and Drawing, incorporating color theory, figure drawing and print media or painting, into foundations courses. (Please note while there is opportunity to incorporate some technology into foundations courses, Colorado College does not have facilities or staff to support digital design, so successful applications will demonstrate the ability to teach foundations concepts in material based, hands on making classes. MFA or related degree and prior teaching experience required.

Founded in 1874, Colorado College is a nationally recognized, private residential liberal arts college with about 2,500 students. One distinguishing feature of Colorado College is its Block Plan, in which professors teach, and students take, one course at a time. Each block is three and a half weeks long with class every day for approximately 3 hours per day for eighteen contact days and is expected to be taught in person, circumstances permitting. For more information, consult the following link https://www.coloradocollege.edu/basics/blockplan/. A successful candidate must exhibit potential for excellence in dynamic teaching at a small liberal arts college.

On the College’s Block Plan, faculty teach six out of eight intensive blocks; the successful candidate will teach 5 foundations courses and 1 intermediate course in 2D Design and Drawing. The Art department offers a liberal arts program encompassing studio art, art history, design, and museum studies. The Art Department has resources to support course field trips. This year-long position is benefits eligible and includes a competitive salary depending upon experience and qualifications.

Colorado College actively promotes a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work.
