Job Summary

The Theatre and Dance Department at Colorado College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in acting and directing to begin in August 2025. Theatre and Dance at Colorado College familiarizes students with fundamentals of acting and directing while empowering them to become artists, changemakers, and cultural leaders. The department seeks candidates who share our dedication to transformational pedagogies and creativity, as well as a vision for the performing arts grounded in the trends and methods of contemporary theatre, such as new plays, physical theatre, interdisciplinary performance (devising, immersive theatre, etc.), and artistic approaches engaged with racial and social justice or that focus on global theatre. This faculty position is responsible for actor training in courses and performances, mentoring projects undertaken by majors, and staging theatrical productions with students from across campus with departmental staff and faculty. As part of Colorado College’s commitment to the liberal arts, the department encourages applications from candidates interested in arts advocacy/program building, developing collaborative relationships with students, and whose artistic work and teaching can connect to students with interests in a variety of artistic and academic disciplines.

Colorado College is a private, undergraduate, selective liberal arts institution enrolling approximately 2,200 students. One distinguishing feature of Colorado College is the Block Plan, in which professors teach, and students take, one course at a time. Each block is three and a half weeks long, allowing for unique teaching and learning strategies. Professors teach six of the eight blocks in an academic year, which as needed may include one block dedicated to supervising senior theses. Applicants must be committed to high quality, innovative undergraduate teaching and to mentoring undergraduate student projects.

The College actively promotes a dynamic and inclusive environment in which students and employees of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives can learn and work. We are committed to becoming an antiracist institution in all of our policies, practices, and pedagogies (please see https://www.coloradocollege.edu/other/antiracism-commitment/). Applicants should include a statement that describes how they can contribute to these goals and/or how racial and/or social justice inform their artistic practice and pedagogies.
